Introduction:
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, E & TC Department celebrated Shiv Jayanti 2026 with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit on 19th February 2026.
The central theme of this year’s celebration was “Barabalutedar System – The Social and Economic Foundation of Swarajya.” The objective of the program was to educate students about the administrative vision of Shivaji Maharaj and the importance of various community contributors in building a strong and self-reliant society.
Execution:
Inauguration Ceremony: The program commenced with garlanding the portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The dignitaries highlighted the visionary leadership, courage, and inclusive governance of Shivaji Maharaj. They emphasized how his administration valued every section of society.
Barabalutedar Theme Presentation: Students presented informative sessions on the Barabalutedar System, which was an essential part of the village economy during Shivaji Maharaj’s reign. The Barabalutedars included traditional service providers such as:
Carpenter, Blacksmith, Potter, Barber, Goldsmith, Priest (Gurav), Washerman, Tailor, Oil Presser, Fisherman, Watchman, Other essential village service providers Through models, role-plays, and speeches, students explained how each community contributed to the smooth functioning of society and supported Swarajya.
Poster Competition: A Poster Making Competition was organized based on the themes. Students participated actively and showcased their creativity through meaningful slogans, artistic illustrations, and historical representations. The posters reflected deep research, patriotic spirit, and innovative thinking.
The entries were judged on: Relevance to theme, Creativity and originality, Presentation and clarity, Historical accuracy.
Outcomes:
The celebration helped students: Understand the social structure of Shivaji Maharaj’s administration, Develop respect for traditional occupations, Enhance teamwork, creativity, and research skills, Strengthen patriotic values and leadership qualities.
