Resource Person: Mr. Balu Singh (Hr. Manager), Mr. Sunil Kumar (Operation Head)
Summary:
On 23rd August 2024, Second-Year Civil Engineering students from Zeal Polytechnic, Pune visited the RDC Concrete RMC Plant in Hadapsar, Pune, as part of their Concrete Technology subject. The visit was led by Mr. Balu Singh and the Operation Head of RDC Concrete, who provided an in-depth overview of the plant’s operations, concrete mix design procedures, and quality control measures. Students had the opportunity to observe the production process and testing methods for both fresh and hardened concrete.
Objective/Purpose:
Objective: The primary objective of the visit was to offer students practical exposure to the processes involved in Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) production.
The visit aimed to:
1) Enhance understanding of the concrete production and delivery procedures.
2) Illustrate the quality control parameters and standards employed in the industry.
3) Demonstrate the testing methods used to ensure the quality of fresh and hardened concrete.
Outcomes:
The visit provided a detailed insight into the operations of the RDC Concrete RMC Plant. Key outcomes include:
1. Plant Operations: Students observed the entire process of concrete production, including batching, mixing, and delivery. They learned about the equipment used and the workflow involved in producing high-quality concrete.
2. Quality Control: The importance of quality assurance in concrete production was highlighted. Students were introduced to various quality control measures and parameters, including the standards for mix design and testing.
3. Concrete Mix Design: The process of designing concrete mixes to meet specific project requirements was explained. Students learned how mix designs are formulated based on material properties and performance criteria.
4. Testing Procedures: Practical demonstrations of tests conducted on fresh and hardened concrete provided students with hands-on experience in evaluating concrete quality. This included tests for workability, strength, and durability.
