Resource Person: Mr. Amol Parhad (Director, IBET Learning Pune)
Summary:
The session on “Practical Techniques of Estimating & Costing in Civil Engineering” was conducted for Second Year Civil Engineering students as part of the subject Estimating, Costing & Valuation. Spanning from 1st December 2025 to 6th December 2025, the session was delivered by Mr. Amol Parhad, Director, IBET Learning, Pine. It focused on enhancing students’ practical understanding of quantity estimation, rate analysis, cost calculation, and the application of real-world tools used in construction planning and project execution. The session provided students with valuable industry insights, hands-on methodologies, and practical exposure essential for professional competency in civil engineering.
Objective/ Purpose:
- To familiarize students with practical methods of estimating quantities and preparing detailed cost analyses.
- To introduce real-world tools, techniques, and procedures used in construction planning and project management.
- To bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and field-based estimating and costing practices.
- To enhance students’ understanding of valuation concepts, rate analysis, and budgeting in civil engineering projects.
- To equip students with skills essential for accurate decision-making in project execution and cost control.
Outcomes:
- Students gained hands-on knowledge of quantity estimation and cost calculation techniques used in industry.
- Participants understood the importance of accuracy, documentation, and systematic approach in estimating and costing tasks.
- Students developed the ability to interpret drawings, prepare estimates, and analyze rates more confidently.
- Exposure to practical examples improved their readiness for real-world project environments.
- The session strengthened their professional understanding, contributing positively to their academic performance and industry preparedness.
