Social Visit and Donation Drive to Sanmati Bal Niketan Orphanage

1. Initiative:

The Department of Computer Engineering at Zeal Polytechnic, Pune, in collaboration with the Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES), successfully organized a social visit and donation drive to Sanmati Bal Niketan Orphanage in Manjari, Pune, on 24th January 2026. This orphanage, founded by the legendary social worker Sindhutai Sapkal, served as the focal point for an initiative aimed at fostering social responsibility and humanitarian concern among future Engineers.

2. Participation and Contribution:

The drive saw enthusiastic participation from students across the First, Second, and Third years (FY, SY, and TY), alongside dedicated faculty members and ACES representatives. Under the guidance of the Head of Department Prof.Vijay Mohite, Prof Vaishnavi Pawar, Prof.Anupurbha Mukherjee, and a collection drive was held prior to the visit. This resulted in a generous accumulation of essential groceries and significant cash donations contributed by the student body, faculty, and leadership. These resources were formally handed over to the orphanage during the visit to support the daily needs and well-being of the children.

3. Objective:

The primary objective of this engagement was to bridge the gap between academic life and social duty, aligning with the Vision and Mission of Zeal Polytechnic. By interacting with the children and understanding the orphanage’s operations, students moved beyond the classroom to gain firsthand experience in community service and empathy. This experience was designed to cultivate ethical values and leadership skills through organized social engagement.

4. Outcomes:

The outcome of the visit was deeply impact, providing tangible food supplies and financial aid while strengthening the spirit of “giving back” within the department. It successfully showcased the commitment of the Computer Engineering Department toward meaningful social causes, proving that technical education is most effective when paired with a compassionate heart. The visit successfully sensitized students to the socioeconomic challenges faced by marginalized sections of society.

5. Conclusion:

The visit concluded as a moving experience that transformed the students’ perspective on their roles as responsible citizens. By stepping outside the technical sphere to engage with the legacy of Sindhutai Sapkal, the department ensured that it continues to shape not just skilled professionals, but empathetic human beings. This initiative stands as a testament to Zeal Polytechnic’s dedication to holistic education and community welfare.
